More Rain.....But We Got In A Game!

Having tentatively planed a Summer-Boule-Get-Together, on Sunday, the weather forecast foresaw many a gray cloud heading our way, so with the humidity soring we called it off , but by late morning the rain hadn't come so we dashed out and managed to get a few games in before the first drops hit the Oak leaves. So we will be having a Brooklyn Boule get together in a few weeks, when the crazy weather returns to normalish. Stay tuned for more updates...

Hmmmmmmm.... The humidity of a confused New York Summer. Bruce and I have taken to playing early in the morning to avoid the heat of the day, but alas it's not that easy. Yet our wonderful photographer Lilly caught us dripping in action as the boule rolled under the Oaks....

BACK IN McCARREN PARK....................... TUESDAY NIGNT KNIGHTS!!!!

Ahhhh..... Back under the oaks on a cool Tuesday night, as the Bastille day falls into a time past, now it's the return to our own Piste and the comfort of rough terrain, broken glass, hand made dirt-castles and the Tuesday Knights. Nothing quite beats Home Sweet Home...... Not to mention that Bruce has caught the fever and is now playing like a pro, or is it the power of the quest of the Grail that has won him over?......we shall see. But the gallant Knights share the park well and let us play in peace, but for how long? Will there be more? What else will McCarren Park draw, Civil War reenactments? Pig racing? public executions? Who knows, but it's home and it's fun, what ever night of the week and there's always room for petanque....Let the Boule Roll Brooklyn style......

An appeal for photos......

Right after the trophy awards at BarTabac in Brooklyn, my camera disappeared.It must have dropped from my belt (with or without the help of someone else...) and that was it.Which means I have lost around 300 photos of Bryant Park (D'Artagnan Trophy) , the PïtStop tournament, the 60th Street Bastille Fair, and BarTabac...Anyone who has photos of these events, please email them so we can share them

Not just petanque games were lost in Brooklyn, there were some other things as well. Namely, Philippe Boet's digital camera with hundreds of photos in the memory of the entire Bastille Day weekend, as well as Joe Z.'s cellphone which had hundreds of telephone numbers in it (probably 90% women) - kidding. So, if anyone back on Smith Street, or thereabouts sees a digital camera speaking in French

"Brooklyn Boule" is offering a "HUGE" reward for the return of Philippe's camera but not for the cell phone......

Bar Tabac Bastille Day Petanque Tournament 2007 - Bruce, Bruce and Bruce....Bonza!!!!

Well Well Well, another exciting, yet, excruciating July 15th in Brooklyn Bar Tabac Tournament, as the sun beat down all day long. As the Bruces didn't quite make the cut for the final 8 teams out of 40 (40 Blue/40 Red) we left early for some liquid refreshments and unfortunately missed the finals (and the rain); and we're still waiting to here the results and how the weather effected the end games. So I shall leave this post open and update as I gather more information.


Brooklyn Boule's Bruces put up a great fight all the way through, playing fantastically on a road covered with sand, not our usual terrain, and we missed the shade of the Oaks. Superb pointing by Laura; and Mark and Tristram aggressively shooting, pointing and the occasional carreau, united our teams harmony, friendship and love for the game. Many thanks Bruces and may our pride and perseverance see us there next year. Roll on 2008........

Sunday eighty teams played in the sweltering heat in Brooklyn, on Smith Street, outside of Bar Tabac. We had teams and players come from Philadelphia, Detroit, Westchester, California, and as far as Morocco. The quarter-finals were all teams from LBNY. In the finals, Team Jeannot-Frank-Lahouari beat Team Mo-Loi-Hery, 11-5.
