Bar Tabac Bastille Day Pétanque Tournament 2008

An email Brooklyn Boule Received about Bastille day, and our reply, to the best of my knowledge :-

Hi,

I was reading your blog and the post about playing on Smith Street on Bastille day.
Where do you sign up? I can't find any info online.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex,

For the Bar Tabac Bastille Day Tournament on the 13 th July 2008.
Your best bet is signing up at Bar Tabac
or at Tout Va Bien in person. These are, as far as I know, the only "open" places for unaffiliated LBNY or Brooklyn Boule club members. Slots are scarce, so put your name and cash down ASAP.It's first come first served.( I believe it's $35.00 per team, but I could be wrong.) Please call these restaurants first, to make appointments, as they are very busy this time of year, and respect their time and patience. Brooklyn Boule has our honored place in the tournament so keep an eye out for us and cheer us on..... If you or anyone else misses out on this year you can join Brooklyn Boule or LBNY, to play in next years Bastille day Tournament and all season long, with membership to either of these local clubs.

All the best and see you there.

Bar Tabac Bastille Day Petanque Tournament 2007 - Bruce, Bruce and Bruce....Bonza!!!!

Well Well Well, another exciting, yet, excruciating July 15th in Brooklyn Bar Tabac Tournament, as the sun beat down all day long. As the Bruces didn't quite make the cut for the final 8 teams out of 40 (40 Blue/40 Red) we left early for some liquid refreshments and unfortunately missed the finals (and the rain); and we're still waiting to here the results and how the weather effected the end games. So I shall leave this post open and update as I gather more information.

Brooklyn Boule's Bruces put up a great fight all the way through, playing fantastically on a road covered with sand, not our usual terrain, and we missed the shade of the Oaks. Superb pointing by Laura; and Mark and Tristram aggressively shooting, pointing and the occasional carreau, united our teams harmony, friendship and love for the game. Many thanks Bruces and may our pride and perseverance see us there next year. Roll on 2008........

"Brooklyn Boule" would like to thank Bar Tabac, Robin des Bois, Ricard, Ernesto Santos, La boule newyorkais, all the other fine and friendly players at the Bar Tabac Bastille Day tournament and to our mentor and great friend Christophe Chambers.

CHEERS!!!!

Update:

Here's what La boule newyorkais posted on their site:
Sunday eighty teams played in the sweltering heat in Brooklyn, on Smith Street, outside of Bar Tabac. We had teams and players come from Philadelphia, Detroit, Westchester, California, and as far as Morocco. The quarter-finals were all teams from LBNY. In the finals, Team Jeannot-Frank-Lahouari beat Team Mo-Loi-Hery, 11-5.

Here's an article in The New York Sun: A Sand-Filled Bastille Day Storms Brooklyn

PS: If anyone has any pictures, video or stories of the tournament; or "Brooklyn Boule" playing, please send them to

so I can put them on the Blog.....Thanks.
